Languages Offered at Yale

Courses offered by Departments and Councils

The following languages are offered for credit at Yale. Not all of these languages are offered in any given semester, and some are offered infrequently. Occasionally, one of these languages may be offered by a department or council as a tutorial, rather than as a regular course. Information about languages not listed here may be obtained by contacting the appropriate department or area studies council, or by contacting the Center for Language Study.

Directed Independent Language Study (DILS)

This program is application-driven and competitive, so there are no regular offerings.
A list of languages offered to date through DILS can be found on the DILS web site.

The CLS hosts seminars and workshops on a variety of topics; all language instructors at Yale are invited.

Oral testing software collects students' spoken responses to test questions for later review by instructors.
