Overview
Incorporating the Internet and emerging technologies into the study of
language enhances language learning in two significant and
substantial ways. First, it can enhance the efficiency of teachers' and
students' traditional practices and methods, for example by
conveniently distributing course materials on-line or by grading quizzes automatically. Second, new
technologies can facilitate the development of new kinds of language
learning activities and assignments not possible in the days before
Technology Enhanced Language Learning. (See our Innovation Portfolio
for some examples.) The Center for Language Study provides leadership and support for the
use of technology in pursuit of both of these goals, through the
efforts of two teams of professional technology specialists.
Our Technology Services
team provides services that enable the meaningful use of technology in the classroom. For the nuts and bolts of language
technology, from online chatting in Arabic to movie-making in
Zulu, or just to schedule a demo of our multimedia equipment, start
here. (Many services provided by this team are initiated by
completing a Service Request or a Facilities Scheduling Request.)
The Technology Projects team
develops software and supports the planning and implementation of
long-term projects. The Tech Projects team is currently looking for a high-performing system administrator who can also lead the programming efforts. Direct inquiries to Trip Kirkpatrick.
